List of Dialogue Essay Topics for All Students

List of Dialogue Essay Topics for All Students Your proper understanding of how to put different source materials into any type of academic paper plays an important role in earning high grades. Students often cite sources to support their major arguments, expand a central idea, or dissect counter-arguments while examining their validity. This skill is significant, and that’s why you need to master it, especially when writing a dialogue essay. Focus on different rules of using quotation marks and quoting texts. Learn when to quote textual evidence and basic reasons to do that. Intro Using a dialogue in essays is one of the areas that many students struggle with. That’s because some of them fail to understand how quotes and dialogues differ or don’t comprehend the right punctuation. The main reason is that many academic subjects are focused only on the papers where the use of dialogues isn’t required. Dialogues are very effective tools when you use them in narrative essays. There are many good dialogue essay topics that you can use. First you need to give answers to these basic questions: What are dialogues? When and why do you need to use them? How to write the best dialogue essay? Dialogues are important for novels, movies, plays, etc. In academic writing, they’re appealing only when you write specific narrations. That’s why a dialogue essay is so different from other types of academic papers that are focused to make a strong claim about a given subject. For example, if you take a look at argumentative papers, they make claims that one opinion is right, while expository essay make claims about how certain ideas or models work. A dialogue essay doesn’t make any claims, and you need to write it to relate different experiences or stories to the targeted audience. That’s why it resembles a story so much. The experiences you describe in your paper include important or interesting conversations that you had with others, such as your friends. Presenting your dialogues with friends in argumentative or expository papers won’t help you strengthen arguments. On the contrary, they will only undermine your credibility. That’s why it’s advisable to use direct quoted from reliable sources of information because they’re seen as conventional norms as you must stay scientific and objective, unlike dialogue essay writing. Be sure to choose excellent topics for a dialogue essay to earn good grades. What to describe in essay? A dialogue is defined as a popular and effective literary technique used by authors to depict a conversation between people. It’s a helpful tool used in all types of fiction, including plays, movies, and books. You shouldn’t confuse it with quotes from different sources because a dialogue is used to create a more dramatic and visual effect, while direct quotes can be easily verified via citations. What are basic differences in direct quotes and dialogues? Dialogues are conversations between people that happen in any story and can be used as an effective device used by students in essays. Direct quotes are specific information taken from the source word for word to be used as supporting evidence to evaluate counter-claims in claim-based academic papers. Using dialogues as direct quotes is one of the main mistakes made by students when completing academic assignments. They often make this error only because they’re trained to use a speech as a direct quote in many academic subjects, so they simply don’t know how to write an interesting dialogue essay correctly. Some students also face hardships when looking for suitable ideas for dialogue essay topics. Reference on how to write dialogue essay Use a dialogue in your essay similar to written fiction. That’s because this literary device can help you add more tension, depth, and character development to your piece of writing. It can also help you move a story along, but you need to use tones, emotions, and words to let readers trust your realistic dialogue that captures a specific situation. Basically, there are certain rules that must be followed when writing a good dialogue essay, such as: Apply quotations to define the words pronounced by specific characters; Always start a new paragraph when speakers change; Make sure that all readers understand who is talking; Use correct punctuation and capitalization. Tips for writing To earn good grades, you should know how to format dialogues correctly. Punctuation and quotation marks should be applied properly to impress teachers with your writing skills. You can easily divide all rules for writing a dialogue essay into a few basic categories, including the use of quotation marks and other punctuation. When using special quotation marks, keep in mind that you need to: Use double quotes to identify that people use a speech; Apply a single quotation to mark quotes; Use quotations when starting every paragraph when using any long dialogue. What about correct punctuation in dialogue essays? There are just some basic rules to follow to end up with high grades: When quotes are the end of sentences, include periods inside quotation marks; If quotes are parts of big questions or exclamations, out punctuation outside quotes; Include question marks and exclamation points inside quotations if they’re a part of people’s words; Insert commas after specific words and put them inside quotations; If the sentences that you quote are broken up, put commas after their first part. When you understand how to use punctuation in dialogue essays correctly, all sentences and paragraphs become easier for readers to understand. Otherwise, you will leave them confused. HBS 2+2 Essay Questions and Tips

This HBS 2+2 Application tip post is one of a series of posts providing MBA application and essay advice for applicants to top MBA programs around the world. Check out the entire 2012 MBA Application Tips series for more valuable MBA essay advice.  Ã‚   The Harvard 2+2 application is now online.   While it still consists of four questions, three are entirely new or at least a little different, and there are no elective questions in this years application. Harvards instructions and question are in black below; my comments and tips are in blue:? 1.   Tell us about three of your accomplishments. (600 words) This is a variation of what has been for years Harvards signature question. In the past HBS asked, What are your three most substantial accomplishments and why do you view them as such?   Obviously you want to include substantial accomplishments. I strongly encourage you to also provide some indication of why you think they are important enough to include on your Harvard MBA 2+2 application. This essay, like almost all MBA essays, has to balance narrative and analysis. If an event is important enough to relate in the little bit of essay real estate that you have, ensure that the reader knows why you include it. It may be obvious from the story. If it isnt, combine critical events with insightful analysis to create a revealing, compelling essay. At least two of the three accomplishments should show leadership and/or teamwork with the emphasis being on leadership. I also like to have this essay show some breadth. My ideal would be to have one professional/internship, one community, and one personal accomplishment in this essay, but that breakdown is neither set in stone nor imperative. 2.   Tell us three setbacks you have faced. (600 words) New question. Oh no! They want me to write about setbacks!!!! Im supposed to be a super-star. True, but real super-stars are resilient. They can handle a set-back and they frequently view failures as hurdles to overcome, not as the end of the world, or their future. They rebound. They learn from mistakes, failures, and bumps in the road and turn them into nothing more than . well than a setback on the road to achievement, accomplishment and success. So in addition to the three achievements discussed in response to #1, write about three setbacks. The word setback implies that you then moved forward. In your essays briefly describe what went wrong and then go into more detail on how you set it right. Finally, what did you learn on the rebound? 3.   Why do you want an MBA? (400 words) New question. What do you intend to do with the degree? Do you have solid, well-reasoned   motivations for pursuing an MBA? Do you have experience that connects to your MBA goal. Include them in your response. Your reasons should show that you share Harvards commitment to leadership.  Do they also demonstrate that you need the transformative education provided by Harvard Business School to achieve your goals? 4.   What would you like the MBA Admissions Board to know about your undergraduate academic experience? (400 words) When introduced, I thought this query was going to produce monotonous, boring pieces, but it didnt. To my pleasant surprise, I reviewed several  responses  as part of our quality control program, and they were revealing, excellent essays. Your topics will clearly vary depending on your experience and the rest of your application, but my ideal answer will discuss a leadership experience from your undergrad career to show that you are a natural leader. Remember: HBS wants to  develop  leaders, not  create  them. It wants to admit people in the habit of leadership. Show that you are one of those people. This essay should complement your other essays and reveal another dimension of your personality and experience. HBS 2+2 Application Deadlines Round  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Due Date  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     Ã‚  Ã‚   Notification Summer Round       July 6, 2011  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     Ã‚   September 2011 Round 1  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   October 2011  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   December 2011 Round 2  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   January 2012     Ã‚   March 2012 Round 3  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   March 2012  Ã‚  Ã‚     Ã‚  Ã‚   May 2012 If you would like more help with your Harvard 2+2 MBA application, please consider Accepteds MBA essay editing and MBA admissions consulting or our HBS 2+2 MBA Packages, which include essay editing, interview coaching, consultation, and a resume edit for the HBS 2+2 MBA application. Accepted.com ~ Helping You Write Your Best HBS 2+2 Essay Questions and Tips UPDATE: The Tips For Harvard Business Schools 2+2 2009 Application Are Now Online- Please post questions or comments on the new post. The Harvard 2+2 application is online and the submission deadline is July 1, 2008.   Harvards instructions and question are in black below; my comments and tips are in red: First, compose your responses to the essays in a word processing document. Please abide by the following instructions: * Limit your responses to the lengths indicated. * Single-space your essays. * Please use Times New Roman font type and 12 pt font size. * Write the question at the top of each essay. * Refrain from using images and/or any other nonstandard English characters in your essays. They may prevent the system from processing your application. All applicants must answer questions 1 and 2. For question 3, please answer TWO of the six questions listed below, and upload individually your response to each of the two questions you’ve chosen. Please note: Do not send an extra copy of your essays to our office, as this will complicate the processing of your application. 1. What are your three most substantial accomplishments and why do you view them as such? (600-word limit) This is practically Harvards signature question. It has been around for years, and it goes to the heart of Harvards values. Harvard wants highly accomplished students entering its program. It wants leaders. At least two of the three accomplishments should show leadership and/or teamwork with the emphasis being on leadership. I also like to have this essay show some breadth. My ideal would be to have one professional, one community, and one personal accomplishment in this essay, but that breakdown is neither set in stone nor imperative. 2. What would you like the MBA Admissions Board to know about your undergraduate academic experience? (600-word limit) Optional for regular applications, this question is required for 2+2 applicants, plus you get an additional 200 words to write a superb, revealing essay.   When introduced, I thought this query was going to produce monotonous, boring pieces, but it didnt. To my pleasant surprise, I reviewed several responses as part of our quality control program, and they were revealing, excellent essays. Your topics will clearly vary depending on your experience and the rest of your application, but my ideal answer will discuss   a leadership experience from your undergrad career to show that you are a natural leader with a history of leadership. Remember: HBS wants to develop  leaders, not create them. It should complement your other essays and reveal another dimension to your personality and experience. 3. Please answer TWO of the six questions below (400-word limit each): The first issue you must address when looking at #3, is which two do you choose. Answer: the two that, when combined with your required essays, allow you to present the most impressive, textured, and comprehensive picture of you.   So if you have lived in Kansas almost all your life and have extensive leadership experience in student government, sports, and your church,   perhaps #2 would not be a good question for you, but #1 might be. If you have extensive international travel, but lack a clear idea of what you want to do, then perhaps 2 4 are for you, but you want to pass on 3. 1. Discuss a defining experience in your leadership development. How did this experience highlight your strengths and weaknesses? Anecdotally and briefly describe the leadership experience showing the impact you had as a leader. Explain how it highlights both your strengths and weaknesses as a leader. Strive to show how this experience has influenced you in later situations. In those you also want to reveal how you have built on your leadership strengths and mitigated your weakness. Thats a lot to do in a 400-word limit. You must write succinctly. 2. How have you experienced culture shock? This question reflects the growing importance of international business and the need for HBS students and graduates to have experience working with different cultures. When have you, either outside your home country or in your own country, dealt with someone from a different culture and been surprised by their behavior, but realized that it is perfectly normal for their culture? How did you adapt? How did you bridge the gap and successfully complete whatever you had set out to accomplish? What did you learn? 3. What is your career vision and why is this choice meaningful to you? Harvard is one of the few, if not the only, top business school that has made the goals question optional. And even this one is a little different than the typical What do you want to do and why do you want to do it? The interesting twist to Harvards question is career vision. With Harvards focus on strategy, Harvard is asking you to develop your career strategy and discuss its importance to you. But dont leave your answer on an entirely theoretical plane. Bring it down to earth with your plan for implementing that vision. In other words writing that you seek a career leading an innovative enterprise, providing work-life balance, and allowing me the opportunity to contribute to my community sounds great. But it will also sound a lot like other peoples visions. You need to have some idea of how to achieve that vision, define it more narrowly, and explain why it resonates with you. For more on the concept of vision, please see The Parable of the Three Stone Masons.I believe that HBS is attempting to identify those who are like the third stonemason perhaps with less religious fervor, but with well that kind of vision. They are still working hard, with feet on the ground, but they radiate enthusiasm for a distant goal and pride in their ability to contribute to something much larger than themselves. 4. What global issue is most important to you and why? This broad question is a bit of a trap. If you say that Issue X is the most important issue to you and you have done nothing to advocate your position, you are hurting your chances of admission. You can be for or against a wide variety of global concerns, but you want to portray yourself as a person of action and initiative. If you declare Issue X as the most important one to you, be prepared to discuss what you have done in connection with that issue. Keep in mind this sentence from HBS web site, While our students lives and experiences vary greatly, they all share a demonstrated capacity for leadership and a desire to effect positive change. [Emphasis added.] If you declare Issue X to be the most important global issue, how have you demonstrated a desire to effect positive change in regards to Issue X? 5. What else would you like the MBA Admissions Board to understand about you? This essay is a great place to highlight   a side of you or experience not discussed elsewhere in the application. This wild card question is a gift to you from the kindly folks serving on the HBS adcom so you can show another area in which you shine. And yes, if you can demonstrate leadership, do so. Do not waste it on a summary or closing sales pitch. 6. What have you learned from a mistake? People of initiative err. They must learn from those mistakes to be effective leaders.   A friend went to her daughters graduation and quoted the valedictory address,   In school you learn lessons and then take tests. In life, you have tests and then learn lessons. If you view   your mistakes as experiments, lessons, or tests, you can grow and make sure you dont repeat them. Show HBS through this essay that you are the kind of person who learns from your mistakes. Again, try to have this question reveal you making your mistake, preferably in a leadership capacity, and applying lessons learned in a sphere of your life not covered by other essays. In the best HBS applications, each essay uncovers a different facet of the applicant and his or her experience. Together they paint a portrait of a dynamic, talented leader with initiative and exceptional ability. Practices of influential organizations such as lobbying with government officials may lead to a reduction in the tax imposed. This makes it difficult for the laid out objectives to be accomplished due to a reduction of funds. It may also lead to a tax increment if the influential organizations argue out a negative utility on the clean-up cost. These factors make the level of production fluctuate, thus, emphasizing the necessity to create a uniform carbon tax.A target audience segment analysis; The target countries on which these carbon taxes should be implemented are those that utilize and emit carbon. This means that the whole world at large is a potential member state to the tax regulatory body. Countries with large carbon usage and emission fight against carbon taxation. They include the United States of America, China, and Russia, since they widely use carbon to produce electricity. The regulatory bodies implement the taxes indirectly through common user practices such as motor vehicles. This is because it is challenging to identify the amount of carbon harm caused by individuals with regards to global warming, once the carbon is in the atmosphere. The countries involved paying taxes in accordance with carbon content. The countries which refute carbon taxes view it as a form of reducing production and job opportunities. The body in charge of carbon and energy taxes is the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.Global warmingGlobal warming occurs due to ozone layer depletion by several gases. Carbon dioxide released through human activities creates a significant cont ributor too ozone layer depletion. The ozone layer protects the earth from harmful ultraviolet rays. Once the ozone layer erupts, the harmful UV-rays penetrate the earth, thus destroying crops and human health. There occurs global warming due to the increment in waves. This causes the climate to change in the long run. The drivers to climate change include decreased water levels, which in turn leads to poor sanitation levels. This will, in the long run, ensures that human health degrades. Global warming statistics record an increase in temperature by 0.8 degrees Celsius since the beginning of the 20th century. Assessment reports on increment in the ocean and atmospheric temperatures record a double effect for the 21st Century. Events such as a rise in sea levels and global temperature follow due to the greenhouse effect. This mostly affects the arctic region where glaciers and permafrost melting occurs. All these events lead to the global warming controversy which exists in society by the media. This is because the issue of increased rates of temperatures in the future by humans or otherwise has to be accounted for. A cost-benefit analysis, of the most suitable method of controlling carbon emissions, has to occur to enable the government to choose a  method that will not hinder production but will ensure that carbon pollution decreases.

E-Mail Server Processes: * Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) – process used to forward e-mail. * Mail Delivery Agent (MDA) Server Message Block (SMB) – a client/server file-sharing protocol. Chapter 4: Transport Layer – provides transparent transfer of data between end users, providing reliable data transfer services to the upper layers. It enables applications on devices to communicate. * Tracking the individual communications * Segmenting data and managing each piece * Reassembling the segments * Identifying the different applications * Performing flow control between end users * Enabling error recovery * Initiating a session Flow Control – can prevent the loss of segments on the network and avoid the need for retransmission. Used to avoid buffer overflows. Two most common transport layer: TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) – incurs additional overhead to gain functions. * Web browsers, E-mail, File transfers UDP (User Datagram Protocol) – provide the basic functions for efficiently delivering the data pieces. Has the advantage of providing low-overhead data delivery. * DNS, Video streaming, Voice over IP (VoIP) 3 basic operations of reliability: * Tracking transmitted data * Acknowledging received data * Retransmitting any unacknowledged data Socket – refers only to the unique combination of IP address and port number. Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) – assigns port number. Different types of ports: * Well-known ports (0 to 1023) – reserved for services and applications. * Registered ports (1024 to 49151) – are assigned to user processes or applications. * Dynamic or private ports (49152 to 65535) – also known as ephemeral ports, are usually assigned dynamically to client applications. netstat – a command that is an important network utility that you can use to verify TCP connections. It lists the protocol in use, the local address and port number†¦ Datagram – is a UDP segment (piece). Flags – are six 1-bit fields contain control information used to manage the TCP processes: * URG: Urgent pointer field significant * ACK: Acknowledgement field significant * PSH: Push function * RST: Reset the connection * SYN: Synchronize sequence numbers * FIN: No more data from sender *flags have fields that the only value is 1 bit and, therefore, has only two values: 1 or 0. 3 way handshake: Step 1 – SYN, Step 2 – SYN and ACK, Step 3 – ACK. Expectational acknowledgement – occurs when TCP uses the acknowledgement number in segments sent back to the source to indicate the next byte in this session that the receiver expects to receive. Window size – is the amount of data that a source can transmit before an acknowledgement must be received. Chapter 5: OSI Layer 3 – provides services to exchange the individual pieces of data over the network between identified end devices. The network layer describes four tasks to be performed: * Addressing packets with an IP address * Encapsulation – is the process of adding that information. * Routing – is the process router perform when receiving packets†¦ * Decapsulation – is the process of removing encapsulation data at different layers. Source IP address – is the IP address of the sending host Destination IP address – is the IP address of the receiving host. IP header – contains the address information and some other bits that identify the PDU as a network layer PDU. Packet – is referred when an OSI layer 4 PDU has been encapsulated at the network layer. Hop – is each route that a packet takes to reach the next device. Common network protocol: * IPv4 – most widely used network protocol. * IPv6 – currently in use in some area. * Novell IPX – a widely popular internetworking protocol in the 1980s and 19990s. * AppleTalk – Apple Computer’s propriety networking protocol. Connectionless Network Service (CLNS) – a protocol used in telecommunication network. IPv4 basic characteristics: * Connectionless * Best effort (unreliable) * Media independent *Some networks have media restrictions and must enforce a Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU). Fragmentation – is the process when the network layer builds the pa ckets according to specification. Key fields: * IP source addressing * IP destination addressing * Time to Live (TTL) * Type of Service (ToS) * Protocol * Flag and Fragment Offset Other Key Fields: * Version * Internet Header Length (IHL) * Packet Length * Identification Header Checksum * Options * Padding *Because broadcast do not travel beyond the network boundary, the network is known as a broadcast domain. Gateway router – is the router a network uses to send and receive messages beyond the network. Hierarchical addressing – is read from the most general information to the most specific. Subnetting – the process when a large network needs to be divided into smaller subnets, additional network codes can be created using some of the bits designated for the host. *The default route is used when the destination network is not represented by any other route in the routing table. Next hop – is the address of the device that will process the packet next. *The route info can be manually configured on the router, creating what is known as a static route. Dynamic routing – when routers learn about routes automatically from other routers in the same internetwork. Routing Protocols – are the set of rules by which routers dynamically share their routing information. * Routing Information Protocol (RIP) * Enhanced Interior Gateway Protocol (EIGRP) * Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) 3 key factors to consider when grouping hosts into a common network: * Purpose * Ownership * Geographic location How to cite Data Communication Reviewer, Papers
